A Sustainable Future for HSYC

In 2003, the success of the Dayton facility led Head Start of Yamhill County to consider LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification for four reasons:

1- similar building standards to LEED

2- third-party review of building features

3- acknowledgement that low-cost green building can be achieved

4- affirmation that serving the most needy of society is a key component in achieving sustainability.

     Ten-Year Plan

Yamhill County Head Start established a ten year capital improvement plan allowing about $650,000 for construction of each facility. Financing has been secured through a combination of federal and state grants and private donors. Enthusiastic community support resulted in construction of a second Head Start facility in Sheridan. This building maintained the same design as Dayton and with the commitment to “continuous improvement,” increased building efficiencies.  Currently, the Newberg facility is under construction on Crestview Drive.  It should be completed by Spring of 2008.

As funding becomes available, facilities in McMinnville and Dundee will be built.
