 Head Start?

     Head Start of Yamhill County has three child care centers located throughout  the county and serves over  240 children.  Historically classrooms have been located in modular buildings, basements of local churches, and in other types of “borrowed and rented” spaces. Although these spaces met the initial needs of Head Start, there was little consistency in the building environment. Often, young people were found susceptible to allergens, improper lighting, fluctuations in temperature, and indoor toxins.  After identifying increased  concerns from staff and parents and evaluating increasing maintenance and operating costs,  administration at Head Start realized that it could operate cost-effectively as an owner/operator of energy-efficient facilities. This has resulted in cost savings in each new center.
