The
person in this position
is responsible for the recruitment and enrollment of
income eligible families
into the Head Start program. This person implements quality family support services, parent education
programs and program governance as outlined in the Head Start Performance Standards.
The parent is
the child's first teacher and best advocate. The Social Service Coordinator
is committed to doing everything to nurture the family. Providing a resource guide, encouraging
father participation, working with a family portfolio to guide a family to build
on their strengths, supervising Family Advocates that work directly with our
families and establishing community partnerships that strengthen family bonds are
just some aspects of this area of Head Start. A monthly
program that Head Start offers is the Parent Nights at each
Center. This provides an opportunity for all families to gain more
knowledge of the process of educating their children. Representatives are chosen from the Parent Nights
attendees to serve as conduits of information to the
Policy
Council. The representatives have the responsibility of bringing center news to
the Council and returning to the Parent Nights with information about Head
Start. From changes in policy, to changes in playground equipment, and
everything in between are all subjects that are discussed and agreed upon at
Policy Council. Not only do parents attend monthly Policy Council Meetings, so does the
Director, Social Services Coordinator, Family Advocates, Community
Representatives, and Board members. This provides parents an opportunity to
participate in the process of making shared decisions regarding concerns about Head Start of Yamhill
County. Social
services develops a supportive community partnership where parents are given
every opportunity to develop their strength and grow towards a better future. |
